Photography has been a part of my life for decades. I’ve always enjoyed capturing those unplanned moments that later always have a story to tell. I took up photography seriously back in the eighties. Armed for a heavy-duty Nikkormat 35 mm camera and friends who snuck me into their school’s darkrooms in New York, I soaked up as much knowledge as I could without ever having taken a class. The streets of NYC served as my classroom and inspiration. My training came from friends who were on their way to becoming professional photographers and were happy to share their knowledge with me. And I have them to thank for getting me started way back when I was spending hours in the darkroom (yes, we did it with chemicals back then!) developing photos and my passion for photography.
While I started out planning to become a landscape photographer for National Geographic, life took a series of funny turns as it usually does. After attending college at the University of Alaska, and I found myself in San Diego and knee deep in the field of broadcast journalism where I spent many years as a producer and writer.
My background in journalism has helped me develop a keen eye for expecting the unexpected. And while my love of photography never wavered (I’ve been all over the world and the country), my love of capturing those beautiful moments associated with the ceremony and anticipation of a wedding blossomed right here in Rhode Island where I often work as a team with my husband, Videographer, Bruce Valliere. Each time I catch a bride or groom in an especially moving or funny moment, I feel honored knowing that I’m able to deliver photos you had no idea I took along with all those other romantic memories you, your family, and friends will cherish for a lifetime.
Weddings are full of unexpected surprises.
